AUDITS
Environmental Audits
The Jersey Royal Company and each grower supplying Jersey Royal is audited against certain customer and industry standards. The industry standard used is the Assured Produce Scheme in the UK, which is the equivalent to the EUREP-GAP standard throughout the rest of the EU. In addition to this, we are also audited against Tesco’s Natures Choice which is a Tesco Specific requirement and which is widely thought of as being one of the highest standards within the industry.
Jersey Royal itself has achieved Gold Standard Natures Choice – the highest achievable level as well as achieving LEAF Marque accreditation. LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) a charitable organisation which promotes environmental awareness within the agriculture sector and has initiated a number of profitable working demonstration farms across the UK.
These audits look at a number of agri-environmental and welfare issues and have sections on soil management, pesticide use, fertiliser use, water use and conservation, recycling and re-use, wildlife and landscape conservation and enhancement, health and safety and worker welfare.
As a number of these protocols differ in their requirements Jersey Royal has combined all requirements (plus a number of their own initiatives into an audit known as the TOP T.E.A.M. audit (T.E.A.M. = Targeting Environmental Awareness and Management).
Jersey Royal operates a quality assurance system which ensures that the products produced are of the highest food safety and food quality. A full traceability system is in operation allowing each unit produced to be traced back to the field of origin. Full records are kept to ensure that these standards are maintained and are fully auditable. Systems are in place to ensure, as far as is practicably possible, that potatoes produced are free of any contaminants and residues.
Packhouse Audits
Jersey Royal manage a centralised system where-by all produce is packed in one of three fully-equipped and audited packhouses. Each packhouse is audited to British Retail Consortium standards under EFSIS inspections.
In addition, the packhouse used for Organics is annually audited by the Soil Association.
