Overnight Frosts take it's Toll
A week at the end of January that saw overnight frost on six consecutive nights has taken its toll on some of the indoor potatoes that were already well-established.
In spite of the fact that we recovered all of the Jersey Royal crops with a fleece blanket some of them still were badly affected, particularly underneath gutters where condensation tends to drop down onto the plants.
Having made an initial assessment, there is a concern that in some of the worst affected areas could be affected by as much as 20%.
Fortunately this is not the case throughout all of the greenhouses, and other plants have got away with only minor singeing.
