Happy New Year

Whilst most workers had a well-earned break over the festive period, the indoor crop kept growing!

A New Year, and lots of optimism for the season ahead. The winter months have been kind to us in so far as not too much rain, so planting conditions outside should be very favourable.

The protected areas that were planted in greenhouses and poly tunnels in carefully monitored amounts each week from early November and throughout December have all been growing well.

The earliest crops will be dug around the third week of February, and in line with the sequential planting programme will be dug steadily each week until we then move outside and onto the côtils towards the end of March.

Whilst there is always fantastic early season interest and demand from the wholesalers for the first crop, we have to be careful to manage both it and the market to ensure both the best quality whilst maintaining a good price as the costs involved with indoor crops are much higher.
