Digging seed

Lifting and tipping seed that has been going on for the last month is nearly finished.

About 20% of the area of Jersey Royals grown each year is a seed crop for the following year.

The seed crop is managed differently and is left for longer in the ground to bulk up and to make sure that the skin sets.

The seed is bagged of the back of the harvesters and loaded straight onto trailers to be taken back to stores where it is tipped into boxes and stacked.
