Standing seed

All the seed that has been in stores since having been lifted in July is taken out and graded into specific sizes.

Seed that has been in stores for the last few months is taken out and graded.

Teams of people in sheds around the island remove the apical dominant shoot before grading and placing each seed tuber into boxes by specific sizes.

Seed is graded and stored in uniform sizes so that when it is planted in the New Year, that a field will be planted with all the same sized seed to ensure even growth of the crop.

Each box is labelled to keep reference to the specific stock, and then stored back in sheds where the new shoots will be trained using lights and fans so that they are at the optimum stage of development for planting outside from early January.
