Branchage

The term 'branchage' is a Jèrriais word that directly translates to mean 'branches'.

Twice yearly there are inspections on a parish by parish basis by the designated roads' committees who measure height and width clearance.

It is the responsibility of the landowner to ensure that all hedges, trees and verges have been cut back, and the debris swept up and cleared away.

The Jersey Royal Company undertakes to do this job for the majority of its landlords, and this involves a number of teams who tidy hundreds of miles of roads in June / July, and again in September.

A lot of the work takes place early in the morning to avoid traffic disruption, and signs are used to warn other road users of activity.
