Outdoor uncovered

It is always an exciting time of the year when the first slopes have the covers taken off, and you start to see a bit more green in the countryside.

The earliest slopes on the East of the island have been uncovered, and the crops are basking in the morning sun.

These smaller, sheltered fields were either planted during the week between Christmas and New Year, or at the very start of 2019.

The plants having been protected with covers from the elements over the last six to eight weeks are always quite soft, and so the timing as to when to uncover is critical as they need to harden up, and they wouldn't withstand a barrage of wind and rain!

These crops will continue to grow naturally and will be lifted towards the middle to end of March.
